American singer and actress Selena Gomez, who holds the distinction of being the most followed female celebrity on Instagram, has made a public declaration about taking a hiatus from social media.
The artist expressed her intent to deactivate her account.
In a heartfelt message posted via her Instagram story, Gomez conveyed her anguish over the pervasive suffering, hatred, violence, and terror occurring worldwide.
She shared her desire for global change and her inability to stand by and witness the pain inflicted upon innocent people. She particularly stressed the need to protect all individuals, especially children, and put an end to violence.
Gomez wrote, “I’ve been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence, and terror that’s going on in the world.
People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific. We need to protect all people, especially children and stop the violence for good.
I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can’t stand by innocent people getting hurt. That’s what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t.”
In a subsequent post, she announced, “I’m taking a break and deleting my Instagram. I’m done. I do not support any of what’s going on.”
