Josephine Otabor, also known as Phyna and the 2022 Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) winner, has issued an apology to the public regarding her earlier controversial statements about abortion.
In January, Phyna made headlines when she revealed that she had undergone two abortions in the past.
Her statement at the time was, “But I don’t do sugar daddies and force small small boys to sleep with me and hoeing around with disease at least I am not barren due to drugs.”
During a September interview, she further commented, “there is no woman that has not had an abortion.”
However, a recent question and answer session on her Instastory stirred more controversy when she said, “only virgins are safe,” and suggested that contraceptives, pregnancy prevention pills, and measures are all forms of abortion.
This statement led to heated debates on social media, including a clash with Princess Onyejekwe, another ex-BBNaija housemate.
Phyna took to her Instagram page on Friday to address the misunderstandings and clarify her stance. She stated, “I write this statement to address the issues concerning my interview about a very sensitive topic and I inaccurately suggested ‘all’ women have engaged in it.”
She continued, “Firstly, I will like to address the fact that in as much as I was misunderstood, I didn’t mean to project it on every female gender.
I will never encourage abortion. I admit that I was being too expressive in the heat of the interview hence my assertions. I will reiterate that abortion is not a thing I stand for, and I should not be seen in that light, and I admit to all mistakes made.”
Phyna expressed her gratitude to her fans, family, and friends for their unwavering support and reassured them that she does not intend to let them down.
This apology comes in the wake of ongoing discussions surrounding sensitive topics and highlights the importance of responsible and clear communication.
