Nigerian music sensation, Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has opened up about the deliberate decision to keep his mother’s identity undisclosed for several years.
During a conversation with Taymesan on Saturday, Mayorkun shared his reasons for avoiding the revelation of his mother’s identity, citing a desire to avoid preferential treatment.
In a viral internet clip, the singer explained that during his university years, he chose not to disclose that his mother is the renowned actress Toyin Adewale.
Mayorkun expressed that growing up, he and his brother were not fond of their mother’s fame, as it brought both unwanted attention and insincere gestures.
He elaborated on his reluctance, saying, “I hated being treated differently, not because you like me but because I am Toyin Adewale’s son.”
Even during his university days, Mayorkun intentionally kept his mother’s identity under wraps, ensuring that people remained unaware of the celebrity connection for four years.
Mayorkun recounted an incident when his mother visited him at school, recalling how he swiftly retrieved what she brought to avoid drawing attention.
The artist’s decision to keep his mother’s identity private reflects his desire for authenticity and independence in his personal and professional life.
