The ongoing legal dispute between Kannywood actress Hadiza Gabon and civil servant Bala Musa has taken a new turn, with Gabon filing a defamation lawsuit against Musa.
The legal battle began in 2022 when Musa took Gabon to court over her refusal to marry him, alleging that they had been in a relationship and that she had promised to marry him.
The case initially appeared before a Shari’a court in Kaduna, where Musa made his claims.
However, Gabon did not attend the court session, and her counsel, Mubarak Kabir, cited doubts about the authenticity of the summons. He requested more time to produce his client.
According to reports by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Hadiza Gabon has now taken the matter to a magistrates’ court on Daura Road in Kaduna.
Her lawyer, Mubarak Sani, argued that Gabon had suffered negative public reactions and comments due to Musa’s false allegations, which portrayed her as a cheat who had taken his money and refused to marry him.
In response, Musa, represented by Naira Murtala, denied the defamation allegation. During the court proceedings, Chief Magistrate Shamsudeen Sulaiman asked the complainant’s counsel whether they had witnesses, to which they answered in the affirmative.
Magistrate Sulaiman granted bail to the defendant with the condition that he should present two reliable sureties who are residents of Kaduna and are civil servants.
The case has been adjourned to November 15 for the complainant to present their witnesses.
