I was sceptical before getting COVID-19 vaccine, says Femi Kuti

Femi Kuti, the eldest son of Fela, Afrobeat legend, says he was first sceptical about getting vaccinated for COVID-19.

The 59-year-old musician got his first shot of the Moderna vaccine on Wednesday in Lagos.

Speaking with Associated Press (AP), Femi said his initial doubt about the vaccine made him miss out when it was first distributed.

The music star said he, however, changed his mindset and resolved to get the jab when the next phase of the vaccination exercise started.

“Yes, I was sceptical before and I missed the first vaccine that was distributed. Then I made up my mind that I am not going to miss this one. So the first day it’s been distributed I am here, I have taken my vaccine today,” he said.

“I know for a fact that the virus is real, I know the vaccine (protection) outweighs the side effects and the more of us that take it, the better for everybody.”

Femi called on Nigerians to vaccinate themselves against the novel disease, adding that other members of his family would also do the same.

“I will just encourage everybody that you have the opportunity to take the vaccine, take the vaccine,” he added.

“I mean it’s free it doesn’t cost you anything and I don’t think… I am still standing, so I am not dead yet, so my whole family will take the vaccine.”
