Nigerian rapper Falz has shared a harrowing experience of a near-death encounter he and his managers, Femisoro Ajayi and Sidney Sule, faced in 2013.
In a conversation with Gbemi O, they described how they were attacked by armed men during a trip back from Abuja, where Falz had been invited to perform at a wedding.
Falz explained that armed men, described as “turban-tying, AK47-wielding, dangerous-looking,” attacked their vehicle on the expressway.
The rapper recounted the shocking moment when the armed men shot at their car, resulting in the death of their driver. The vehicle veered towards a forest, and everyone in the car passed out.
The rapper emphasized that it was a broad daylight incident, and despite the danger they faced, he believes a prayer he led before the trip possibly saved them.
As the armed men continued to shoot, police sirens in the distance prompted the attackers to retreat into the forest.
Falz described the chaotic situation, stating, “We tried to stop cars on the expressway, but not a single soul stopped.
A police guy eventually came, and another guy said he was a doctor.” The incident occurred during a period of heightened security concerns, given the prevalence of Boko Haram activities in the region.
