Nigerian rapper Eva Alordiah has candidly revealed the reasons behind her decision to step away from her music career, despite its apparent success.
In a recent X post, the 34-year-old artist shared her personal journey of dealing with depression and burnout, and how she transformed her life during this hiatus.
Eva Alordiah explained that she had reached a point where depression had become a constant presence in her life, and she was feeling emotionally drained.
Financially, she was struggling to make ends meet and described herself as a “starving artist.”
In her own words, she stated, “A few years ago I walked away from a seemingly successful music career. I was burnt out. Depression had taken an almost permanent seat beside me.
My bank balance was just enough to buy my next meal. If there was a picture of the phrase ‘Starving Artist,’ it would have been my damn face.”
However, Eva Alordiah made a life-changing decision to take control of her situation. She invested three years in intensive self-improvement, which included physical fitness, extensive reading, mental well-being, and acquiring financial knowledge. During this period, she also ventured into online businesses.
Looking back, she expressed that she wouldn’t change anything about her journey, and taking responsibility for her life allowed her to reclaim it.
Eva Alordiah emphasized that her life is now significantly better because she had the courage to confront her issues and take action.
This revelation comes after Eva Alordiah had previously shared her experience with deep depression and had temporarily abandoned her aspiration to become the “greatest female rapper in Africa.”
Her story is a testament to the importance of prioritizing mental health and self-improvement, even when it means stepping away from one’s perceived success.
