Grammy-nominated Nigerian artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has offered guidance to emerging musicians, encouraging them to prioritize originality in their artistic endeavors.
Reflecting on his own journey, the OBO crooner shared how he made the decision to move from the United States to Nigeria to create music that diverged from Western norms.
Davido emphasized that the distinctiveness of the sound he cultivated in Nigeria played a pivotal role in propelling him to superstardom upon his return to the United States.
In a video message posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, Davido advised aspiring artists to ensure they stand out creatively.
He stated, “If I could give advice to aspiring musicians, just be original. I used to live in America. I could have stayed and done what everybody else was doing.
My calling was to go back home [Nigeria] and represent the culture [Afrobeats], and eventually, it still brought me back out here. But everybody else has their own path. The most important thing is to be original.”
