The 19th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) took place at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, on Sunday.
The prestigious event recognized and honored outstanding contributions to the African film industry.
Top Honors for ‘Anikulapo’ and ‘Mami Wata’
Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Anikulapo’ and C.J Obasi’s ‘Mami Wata’ emerged as major winners at this year’s AMAA. ‘Anikulapo’ secured two categories, winning the Ousmane Sembene Award for Best Film in an African Language and the Best Achievement in Production Design, attributed posthumously to the late art director, Pat Nebo.
‘Mami Wata’ claimed three significant awards, including the Best Achievement in Make-Up, the Best Achievement in Cinematography, and the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVB) Award for Best Nigerian Film.
Tobi Bakre and Nse Ikpe Etim were celebrated as the Best Actor and Actress in a Leading Role.
The event was hosted by Nancy Isime, Rahama Sadau, and Richard Ato Turkson, adding an extra layer of glamour to the star-studded evening.
